Corran Rèile: Affordable Homes Development

Aberfeldy Development Trust are delighted to inform our community of some exciting progress regarding the building of 8 new homes at the former Slaughterhouse site. To date, the Trust have secured funds of £769,000 to help our community achieve their goal of providing secure, and affordable housing for people who have local connections in the Aberfeldy area.

Reflecting the needs of our community, as highlighted in the local Community Action Plan and Housing Needs Survey, we will offer properties for sale and rent. For sale properties will be discounted to make them affordable to local families and rental properties will be offered at Social Rent Levels. The development will offer a mix of accommodation that includes: one-bedroom flats and two and three-bedroom family homes with gardens. These homes will only be available to those with a local connection.

After a process of community consultation meetings, feasibility studies and a successful pre-planning application to Perth and Kinross Council we are now able to submit a final planning application. The Trust supports the advice given by Perth and Kinross Council planners in our pre-application to provide access to the new development via Appin Place. This advice is also supported by our commissioned architects, road and bridge engineers and takes account of legal advice given by the Trust’s solicitors.

The Trust recognises there will be some short-term disruption in the early phases of the build to the existing residents of Appin Place. To ensure safety and alleviate disruption we will bind our contractors and suppliers to a strict roads and construction management programme that will consider safety, access, noise and building times at the site.  Providing access via Appin Place will help maintain community cohesion, provide a safe route for new residents to local services and avoid additional expenditure on legal and construction costs that would jeopardize the completion of these affordable, community homes.
